How to be a “Goal” Digger in 2018

          • sunnyfridge
          • December 26, 2017

This is traditionally the month in which people set goals for the following year. But, unfortunately, most people who set goals – especially New Year’s resolutions – never achieve them.

How do you beat the odds? Here are a few goal setting tips from a few motivational masters:

Jack Canfield, co-author of the Chicken Soup For The Soul series, says, “Write your goals down in detail and read that list every day. Then ask yourself, what can I do today to move closer to achieving one of my goals?”

Tony Robbins recommends that you, “Decide what you’re absolutely committed to achieving, take massive action, and notice what’s working or not. Then, keep changing your approach until you’ve achieved what you want.”

When you’re feeling discouraged, motivational guru Zig Ziglar provides this simple truth: “You do everything better when you’re thinking positively than when you’re thinking negatively.”

My mentor John Maxwell says, when it comes to approaching your day and career, start by asking yourself three critical questions: “What is required of me? What gives me the greatest return? What gives me the greatest reward?”

And, although most are not superstar authors, social scientists who study goal achievement recommend that you focus on no more than five goals at a time, and mix performance goals such as “Lose 10 pounds” with learning goals such as “Learn how to cook five new nutritious meals.”

So, set a goal and achieve it. 2018 is your year to rise and shine!

          Cheers,

Local Youth Benefit from John Maxwell Team Global Youth Initiative

          • sunnyfridge
          • November 19, 2017
          • Global Youth Initiative, John Maxwell Team, leadership

Half a million young people were served in October and April through The John Maxwell Team Global Youth Initiative. The series of events were held in large cities and small villages.  The JMT Global Youth Initiative is an international movement of hundreds of free community events. Topics range from leadership development and anti-bullying to self esteem and success. The mission is to help the youth in communities around the world thrive.

Locally, Sunny Fridge Consulting, LLC (www.sunnyfridge.com) led two events for Mississippi area youth and young adults ages 8-18. YouthMAX Imagine Y.O.U. was hosted by the PEARSON Foundation at Sweet Rest Church in Pearl on Wednesday, April 26th from 6 – 8 p.m.  A second event was hosted Saturday, April 29th from 2-4 p.m. at The Church Triumphant Global in Jackson by TCTG Youth Ministry.  Both events featured an engaging presentation of inspiration, entertainment and fun by local artists and motivational speakers.

The events included a special video teaching from Nick Vujicic, JMT Global Ambassador for the YouthMAX Plus program. Vujicic is an Australian Christian evangelist and motivational speaker born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare congenital condition characterized by the absence of arms and legs. He has inspired millions with his humor and faith.

“Through the John Maxwell Team Global Youth Initiative, my team and I have the chance to influence tomorrow’s leaders today,” said Sunny Fridge, Ph.D., Certified John Maxwell Team Member and co-YouthMAX Facilitator. “Our young people face many challenges and struggles with confidence, bullying and fear of failure.  We want to remind them they are valued and have what it takes to rise and shine as leaders to be the change they wish to see in the world.

Leadership develops daily, not in a day. – John Maxwell

With my mentor John Maxwell, I’ve learned that leadership develops daily, not in a day. Our goal is to spark an intentional and lifelong leadership interest in today’s youth.”

As certified members take to their communities to make a difference, events will be happening all around the world. To reserve your free seat in the next Pearl or Jackson event or if you would like to partner or be a sponsor for these events, call (601) 376-9522.  Be sure to check youthmax.com for additional information about the events happening in Jackson and Pearl, Mississippi.

          Cheers,

When You Feel Like Your Life is Spinning Out of Control!

          • sunnyfridge
          • November 19, 2017

Earlier this year, I had a minor but very scary incident while driving one morning on a road I’ve taken dozens of times. As I was turning right on Lakeland drive (from Airport Road), my PT Cruiser started skidding and I began losing control.  When I hit the brakes, the car continued spinning and I held fast to the steering wheel trying to regain control. When the car finally stopped I was facing in the opposite direction of on-coming traffic.  Praise God I was on the grassy median by that time. Although shaken up, I called 911 and a Flowood police officer came within minutes.  He gave me directions to back up and get my car on the road again. It could have been worse, since I barely missed hitting a traffic sign and a pole and felt like the car was going to turn over. And no other car hit me! I’d already thanked God before my journey for safe traveling mercies, but it was a reminder how blessed I am every moment of the day! And yes, I know now that you shouldn’t panic, and never hit the brakes hard during a skid.

As you work to end the year on a high note, at one time or another along your journey you may feel like you’re losing control of your life. As a result of driving yourself too hard, perhaps you may find yourself pulled in so many directions. What will you do to regain your sanity, to get back on the road to success? Some advice from Iyanla Fix My Life Host, Iyanla Vanzant:

And sometimes we just have to, as my nephew says, “chill” and know that God’s got this and He is in control…

My goal this year is to step up my efforts to be intentional about becoming the best version of myself. I’m a John Maxwell certified coach, trainer and speaker. Every day I get to pursue my passion of working with individuals, organizations and teams to help them achieve personal and professional goals and live life to their fullest potential.

Perhaps I’ll get a chance to meet you during one of my workshops, seminars, or masterminds.  And if we never meet, know that you have a story that needs to be told.  You have a unique purpose and God has a plan for your life.  Keep the faith. When you can’t control what life throws at you, challenge yourself to change the way you respond to what happens to you.  I’m rooting for you to overcome life’s obstacles so that you become better and not bitter. Take control and be #intentional.  Feel free to scroll down to comment and share what you do to keep a balance in your life.  And remember, when life gets you down, keep your sunny side up!
          Cheers,

7 Tips to Find and Develop Your Unique Strengths

          • sunnyfridge
          • November 18, 2017
          • coaching, goals, online training, strengths

Quick Question.  What are your strengths??? You may have been told that there are always people who are better than you and there always will be. You heard it from your parents, teachers, and even friends. And it’s important to avoid the comparison trap along your success journey.  As much as you and I may aspire to be the next Oprah or Bill Gates we may never become these business visionaries. But, what you probably don’t hear as often, is that you are better than a lot of people. Everyone has their strengths. And even though your strengths may not be as developed as some, they will be well above many others.

          1. List Your Strengths

People take what they are good at for granted. It’s just something you do; it’s almost as natural as breathing. You have been doing it for a long time, and you don’t even think about it. But, if you force yourself to list out your strengths, you will discover unknown aspects about yourself.

          1. Others Sometimes Know You Better Than You Know Yourself

You may help others without realizing it. Maybe you helped fix their computers or  when they had trouble with their cars. Perhaps you helped a colleague organize a big event.

          1. Try Something You Haven’t Done in a Long Time

Think back to when you were in high school or college. What kinds of extracurricular activities were you involved with? For example, perhaps you were in the Audio/Visual Club. You knew how to work cameras at sporting events. You knew how to edit post-production to make the video clips come alive. This could be the start of a new skill, as you could apply this to YouTube videos, or your church media ministry, etc.

          1. Teach Others

You can’t teach something you don’t know. And even when you do know something, when you teach it, you will need to refine what you know so that you can convey it to others. Teaching will force you to dig deeper into the subjects you present.

          1. Volunteer

Volunteering has the advantage of helping others out as well as helping you learn new skills. You may volunteer at a food bank and learn how to grow vegetables. This may not be something you would have learned without volunteering. Some people who have a difficult time finding a new job turn to volunteering as a way to gain exposure to new skills as well as make connections. The Rotary Club, Optimist International and Habitat for Humanity are just a few service organizations that welcome volunteers.

          1. Lead a Group
When you find a group whose members all share the same interest as you, put yourself in a leadership position. You will face new challenges that strengthen your skills in that interest. You can also put this leadership skill on your resume which can help you in looking for a new job. The group can also help you learn more about the interest. Check out groups at meetup.com
          2. Online Training
If there are skills you are not strong at, but would like to learn more about, consider taking some online training. There are plenty of resources available that offer great training on most subjects. You can find both free and paid resources. It’s a good idea to start out with free resources to help you determine if the skills are right for you. If so, you can branch out into paid resources.

          ACTIONABLE STEPS

          1. Ask two people you know well what they think you are good at. If possible, have them write it down. This will give you a form of validation if you ever refer to it in the future. You could choose one person from work and one who is a family member or friend.

          2. Revisit a hobby you used to do as a kid. If you played sports, offer to coach on a team for either kids or adults. There are plenty of adult leagues who could use a hand in some capacity

          3. Commit to signing up and learning three online courses. Choose any subject you find of interest and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. As long as training exists, you can learn something new.
